House System

At Roehampton Church Forest School, our House System is a vibrant expression of community, belonging, and shared purpose.

Rooted in our vision of “living together in unity”, our houses bring pupils and staff together across year groups, creating a strong sense of identity and connection.

From Nursery through to Year 6, every member of our school community belongs to one of four houses, fostering a spirit of inclusion, collaboration and collective pride.

Uniquely, our houses are inspired by the wildlife found on Putney Heath - Fox, Hedgehog, Robin, and Squirrel. These four houses reflect our deep connection to our Forest School ethos. This meaningful link to nature reinforces our commitment to caring for the world around us, while nurturing a sense of wonder, responsibility, and respect for creation.

Our House System is designed to celebrate the whole child.

Children earn house points not only for academic achievement, but for demonstrating perseverance, kindness, courage, and service to others. Whether it is producing exceptional work, overcoming personal challenges, showing compassion, or going above and beyond to support others, every positive contribution is recognised and valued.

This ensures that success is inclusive, meaningful and rooted in our shared values.

House points can be awarded by all members of our school community - staff, governors, and visitors! This reinforces a culture where positive choices are seen, celebrated and encouraged. Points are gathered throughout the week and shared during our Merit Collective Worship, where achievements are recognised and celebrated together as a community.
The weekly "Merit Winners" are celebrated publicly in our weekly School Newsletter Publications.

Pupils take ownership of this process.
Our Year 6 House Captains and Year 5 Vice Captains play a key leadership role in collecting and announcing house points, developing responsibility, confidence, and pride in their role. This pupil leadership strengthens our culture of service and ensures that children are actively involved in shaping the life of the school.

Friendly competition adds excitement and motivation.
House points are displayed in the hall, creating a shared sense of anticipation and celebration. At the end of each half-term, the winning house is recognised and rewarded with a Mufti Day (Home Clothes Day) - a wonderful day that celebrates collective effort, teamwork and commitment.

But beyond competition, the true strength of our House System lies in what it builds.
It creates connections across year groups, allowing older pupils to support and inspire younger ones. It nurtures teamwork, resilience and a sense of belonging. It encourages every child to contribute to something bigger than themselves.

Most importantly, it brings our values to life.

At Roehampton, our House System ensures that every child feels part of a community where they are known, valued and inspired to flourish - together.
