British Values

Responsible, Caring, Fearless & Secure

At Roehampton Church Forest School, British Values are not taught in isolation - they are lived, experienced and embedded within our daily school life.

Rooted in our Christian vision, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity”, we nurture children to become respectful, responsible, reflective and resilient individuals, who understand their place in a diverse and ever-changing world.
Through our curriculum, relationships and wider opportunities, we actively promote the core British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Democracy
At RCFS, pupil voice is strong, valued and acted upon.
Children actively participate in decision-making through our School Council, Faith Council, Eco Council and other pupil leadership roles and class discussions. They learn that their opinions matter and that everyone has a right to be heard. Opportunities such as voting, debating and contributing ideas help pupils understand how democracy works in practice and how they can influence positive change within their community.

The Rule of Law
Our school is built on a clear and consistent framework of expectations, rooted in our core values and Christian ethos.
Children understand the importance of rules in keeping us safe, happy and able to learn. Through our behaviour systems, class charters, PSHE curriculum and wider learning experiences, pupils develop a strong sense of right and wrong, fairness and justice. They begin to understand that laws and rules are essential in society and that they have a responsibility to uphold them.

Individual Liberty
We create a safe, nurturing environment where children feel confident to be themselves.
Pupils are encouraged to make choices, express their views and take responsibility for their actions. Through PSHE, e-safety education and everyday learning experiences, children develop independence, self-awareness and the ability to make informed, positive decisions. They learn that freedom comes with responsibility and respect for others.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance
Respect is at the heart of everything we do.
We are a diverse and inclusive school where every individual is valued as unique and important. Through Religious Education, collective worship, visits to places of worship and a rich, culturally diverse curriculum, children develop a deep understanding of different faiths, beliefs and cultures.
They learn to celebrate difference, challenge stereotypes and treat others with kindness and dignity. Our pupils understand that living well together means showing empathy, compassion and respect at all times.

Impact
The impact of our approach to British Values is evident in the confidence, character and conduct of our pupils.
Children at Roehampton Church Forest School:
  • Speak with confidence and respect, valuing the views of others
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of right and wrong and take responsibility for their actions
  • Show empathy, kindness and understanding towards others from all backgrounds
  • Make thoughtful choices and understand their role in contributing to a positive community
  • Are well-prepared for life in modern Britain as active, responsible and respectful citizens

British Values are not simply understood - they are lived authentically by our children every day.
