Year 4

Responsible, Caring & Secure

A very warm welcome to Year 4! There is lots of fun and exciting learning to do this year and I look forward to supporting your child on their learning journey.

Below are a few helpful reminders to make this year as successful as possible:

P.E: Swimming lessons will be on Wednesdays until Christmas and Chelsea multi-skills will be on Fridays. After Christmas, there will be P.E. on Wednesdays instead of swimming. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school each week.

Homework: Each term, your child will receive weekly spellings, X tables, maths and SPAG which will need to be completed and returned on the following Monday. Additional homework may also be set as the year progresses and where a child may benefit from further consolidation of their learning.

Spellings: Spellings will be handed out on Fridays and tested on a Monday. Spellings will include a combination of words from the National Curriculum’s Years 3/4 word list and words containing key spelling patterns as set out in the Year 4 curriculum.  They may also be set key words from the current topic being studied.

Times tables: By the end of Year 4, the children need to know all their times tables up to 12 x 12 - in order and at random as well as the inverse (division) facts. E.g. 15 ÷ 5 = 3.  Please practise these regularly at home with your child. Your child will be tested on a times table in random order on a Monday.

Reading: Please hear your child read daily or as often as possible throughout the week.  A comment should be written in your child’s reading record twice a week.  Your child’s reading record and book should be brought into school on a Monday and a Thursday and will be sent home on a Tuesday and a Friday.

Thank you for your on-going support.  Should you have any other questions or concerns, or simply wish to discuss your child’s learning, please make an appointment to see me through the office staff.

Best wishes,

Mrs Johnson
